Design scope
Motion is a motion choreography and presentation tool, not an FEA or dynamics solver: it does not compute forces, torque loads or structural stress, and its collision handling is bounding-box based — precise interference checking stays in your CAD. Frequently asked questions
Can I animate a STEP file without SolidWorks?
Yes. DynMech Motion is a standalone desktop application for Windows and macOS. It imports STEP and IGES files directly — exported from FreeCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA or any other CAD — and needs no CAD installation or license on the same machine.
Is DynMech Motion an alternative to SolidWorks Motion?
For demonstrating and choreographing machine movement, yes — and it works with assemblies from any CAD via STEP. It focuses on motion choreography, signal logic and shareable animations rather than force/torque analysis.
How do my customers view the animation?
Three ways, none requiring a paid license: the free DynMech Player plays .dma packages offline with a free camera; an online share link with QR code opens on a phone; and glTF (.glb) export embeds in web pages and PowerPoint.
Does the motion look realistic?
Motion uses industrial velocity profiles — trapezoidal and jerk-limited S-curves with configurable velocity, acceleration and jerk — the same shapes real servo drives execute, so cycle timing and the feel of acceleration match the physical machine.
What CAD formats can I import?
STEP (.step/.stp, recommended — assembly hierarchy and colors preserved) and IGES (.iges/.igs). Modified assemblies can also be exported back to STEP.
Is there a free version?

What languages does the interface support?
English and Simplified Chinese ship built in. The UI is fully translatable through open JSON language packs: export the template from Preferences, translate it, drop it in the languages folder, and your language appears in the list — user packs can even override the official ones.
